Today we’d like to introduce you to Brooke and Doug Hickethier.
Brooke and Doug, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Every couple has their own story to tell. Ours might not be the most glamorous or even make it into the running for the plot of the latest romantic comedy, but it’s ours and it’s magical in its own way. You see, we met as co-workers at a restaurant in Flagstaff, AZ. We were in the midst of our college years, trying to make money for our Top Ramen Fund while having a life outside of our studies. We believe it was fate that we met the way we did simply because it wasn’t even supposed to happen. But as loose ends tied up and things fell into place, so did we. That cliche spark, the fireworks show that booms in your head, the moment that you realize they’re the one you want to see at the end of the aisle on your wedding day. Because when you know, you know… right?
We both had a mutual love of photography, however, I preferred portraits and Doug enjoyed shooting the stunning landscapes of Northern Arizona. I had always hoped of turning my hobby into something more and once couples began trusting me with photographing their engagement portraits I convinced Doug to tag along and help. From there, we started shooting together and eventually took the leap into photographing weddings. At first, it was a bit terrifying knowing people were counting on us to capture one of the best days of their lives. But once we shot that first wedding, we never looked back. We loved everything about it, the details, the joy, the grandmothers cutting a rug and the incredible couples that eventually became life long friends. It’s an incredible feeling knowing one of our photographs will be held by their grandchildren some day. We couldn’t imagine doing anything else.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
We capture couples in love with cake on their faces, Aunt Betsy break dancing at the reception, a father with tears in his eyes when he sees his daughter dressed in white. We freeze these moments in time of the first day of their life together as husband and wife. We are timeless, classic and authentic wedding photographers who specialize in natural light photography. We have a passion for marriage, the adventure it brings and capturing life’s moments along the way.
