Today we’d like to introduce you to Breanna Dixson.
Breanna, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
My story is just that, a story. Full of countless experiences of growth, Passion, “Aha!” moments, self-doubt, and the occasional setbacks, or rather, learning experiences. There have been times when I questioned if I could ever be a “Professional” photographer, or if I could ever be good enough to be able to run a business & stay home with my kids, how could “I” ever be good enough? It wasn’t until my husband, and I sat down together & decided to write some goals down on paper that photography changed from being a hobby to a lifelong passion-filled career, but it wasn’t immediate. On the backside of one of our many bills, I nervously wrote down “My Photography goals.” Hesitantly, I then wrote some basic goals for the year, that frankly seemed unachievable & I definitely ended up feeling inadequate & in tears by the end of it, but I wrote them down anyway. My goal was to book one session per month, one wedding per year & eventually purchase additional equipment. The next few months, I really put my whole heart into photography. I ended up surpassing EVERY single goal I had for that year: I was able to book 15 sessions in some months, I booked three weddings, I was able to purchase a new laptop, new editing gear, a new camera, and some new lenses. I was able to quit my day job & create my own schedule that has allowed me to stay home with my two little ones (both under 2). I have redefined myself & what I thought I was capable of. I will continue raising my goals, growing my photography business, all while balancing my family life.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I am a photographer! I love people & believe in celebrating life, so I capture moments that will last forever, photos that move people & evoke emotion. I photograph births, newborns, milestones, families, seniors, couples, engagements, bridals, weddings & other events. I specialize in light, airy, clean, crisp & classic images.
What do you know now that you wished you had learned earlier?
I wish I wouldn’t have compared my work to others with more experience. I wish I would have put myself out there sooner. I also wish that I had known that everyone starts out somewhere & that its ok to not be perfect. I truly believe that true skill takes time & tons of practice.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
