Today we’d like to introduce you to James Maynard.
James, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
My father was an avid photographer, and he taught me quite a lot about photography, including composition, exposures, and darkroom techniques. He encouraged me to take photography classes, and I always had my own darkroom. Computers have always been a love of mine, so I came into digital photography early on. I love the ability to try new looks and change colors. I adore all aspects of photography, including landscapes, street photography, and portraits.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I believe that art should express emotion. The most common emotion to express in photography is beauty, but I also try to bring in despair, fear, sadness, whimsy, desire, and even hunger in my photographs. There is more than just what the camera sees in any image, and it is my goal to bring out the photograph behind the photograph.
How do you think about success, as an artist, and what do quality do you feel is most helpful?
For me, success means creating art that makes people happy. I enjoy feedback from viewers, and am happy when my photography strikes a chord with viewers.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
I love my followers at my Instagram page @tucsoninphotos as well as on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/TucsonInPhotos, I only recently moved to Arizona from Vermont, and am looking forward to holding exhibits here. Those will be announced on my Facebook page.
