Art & Life with Douglas Hebert

Today we’d like to introduce you to Douglas Hebert.

Douglas, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
Every artist has a unique story. My story is still in the making as I journey through life. Art is a powerful way of communicating with the world. It can move people in emotional and intellectual ways where words sometimes fail. Art enables us to share ideas and transform people’s minds in compelling ways. My story is not my own. My story involves the many lives that I touch through my teachings as a certified art teacher in Arizona. I teach over 1,500 art students a year and I am also currently coaching two autistic interns for Focus comic.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I am the main artist for Focus comic and internship coach for autistic kids and young adults. Focus comic an important social cause campaign featuring an autistic super hero. The action adventure horror comic entertains readers of all ages and removes the stigma associated with autism. The comic helps kids feel like everyday heroes and inspire hope.
I create award winning sculptures as a professional artist and it is something that I am passionate about. The art speaks for itself. My art is inspired by creatures from the animal and reptile kingdom. My work is surreal. My art provokes the viewer to see the world differently and appreciate color, form and existence from the mundane.

Artists rarely, if ever pursue art for the money. Nonetheless, we all have bills and responsibilities and many aspiring artists are discouraged from pursuing art due to financial reasons. Any advice or thoughts you’d like to share with prospective artists?
The biggest challenge facing artists today is getting awareness. Magazines like yours make a big difference in supporting the arts.
