Art & Life with Dana Corum

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dana Corum.

Dana, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve had a brow obsession. I would always do my family’s, friends, and even my brows. About two and half years ago I was a stay at home mom and by staying home all the time I had a lot of entrepreneurial thoughts running through my mind so I thought what could I do that I would always love?! Microblading was something I was super interested in because it had to do with brows and I felt I could actually start a successful buisness with it, so I did. I went and got certified in microblading and bloodborne pathogens and spent a lot of time practicing and I became really good at it. I spent hours and hours a day practicing on fake skin and fruits and veggies until I was confident I could help someone with their brows. I started in a studio that I shared and a year after that I was able to get my own studio in Glendale AZ, I now have a solid following of people loving my work due to the fact I specialize in creating natural brows as if you didn’t even get them done and that’s what a lot of people want! I am a law enforcement wife, and because of that, I offer huge discounts to all first responders, military, and fire wives. Every month I do a giveaway for a free set of brows to a deserving person, and that is my way to give back to our community.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
What I do is called microblading, it’s done using a hand tool with tiny needles that form a blade, and I create real looking hair strokes with pigment to make it look like you have hair where it’s missing. I also do machine shading, and that adds a little more density between the hair strokes to give the brows a little more pop! As we age, hair loss becomes a struggle, especially for women, and eyebrows may not seem like a huge deal, but they are! It’s the center of your face, and us women can really lose confidence when we lose them. Cancer survivors also struggle with having less hair or even no hair after treatment, so this is a great option for them. Most of my clients are elderly and love getting this done because they struggle with poor vision, so they don’t have to stress over having to fill them in. I really focus my art of brows on being natural, and that’s what I want people to know me by. I love doing this and watching my clients cry in joy over having brows on their face, that is the best overwhelming feeling ever!

How do you think about success, as an artist, and what do quality do you feel is most helpful?
I feel to succeed NEVER get comfortable with where you are at and always strive to be the best you can be! Always practice your art to improve and stay humble.
