Today we’d like to introduce you to Caitlin Dressler.
Caitlin, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
When I was 9 years old my family went on vacation to Disneyland during Christmastime and came home after Christmas to presents being by our fireplace from Santa. To my surprise a camera was in my stocking and ever since then photography has been such a joy and a wonder for me. My neighbors built a dark room and I spent several years photographing and developing my own film in their garage.
Fast forward to 2011 when I bought my brother in law’s camera off of him and began my business, Caitlin Audrey Photography. It has been such a wonderful – and sometimes crazy – ride, but I’d never change a minute of it. I’m grateful for the full support I’ve had of my husband and family, since decision day, to make a business out of this and how much love and support they have for me and my work, as well as all of my wonderful clients & friends!
But, in 2016, I’d been working my business for just about 5 years and I was a homeschooling momma. My Dad was really sick and we knew he’d be passing soon, and I was shooting a lot. I got to a point where all I wanted to do was spend time with my family. So, I put my camera down and my business on hold. My Dad passed shortly after that and then I got pregnant with our last baby.
And then, in February of 2018, I decided it was time to jump back in – I missed it SO much. I decided to run full force into what I’d always loved – shooting love, and couples. Since then, while I have been working in a variety of different photography fields, I have relaunched, specializing in where my heart really is – engagements. wedding. maternity and I could not be happier.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
You guys….I LOVE love. Like, really really love it. And I really love being able to photograph it. The opportunity I’m given to learn a couple’s love story and work off of that, to be able to be silly adults again with them – because let’s face it, we are WAY too serious – and use our time together to really evoke that emotion through my lens. Relationships are my language and that is fully my goal, to build a relationship of trust which allows whoever I’m photographing to be comfortable and themselves the entire time during our session, thus having beautiful images to show as a result!
What would you recommend to an artist new to the city, or to art, in terms of meeting and connecting with other artists and creatives?
I’ve always heard that networking is key – and as a stay at home mom of 4 kiddos that was always hard for me mostly because my time is very limited outside of working and being home – but it really really is!
I’ve worked on some continued education with photography – shout out to Amy & Jordan Demos! – and their community is incredible! Further, there are some incredible groups for creatives here in Arizona, so truly whether you’re looking for people to bounce ideas off of, give you constructive criticism, meet up for coffee or plan fun shoots, it is so available!
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
