Art & Life with Ben De Soto

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ben De Soto.

Ben, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
Born in Los Angeles, California in 1939. At an early age, I knew I was to become an artist. My Father and Grandmother were a big influence on me. My Father was a fine artist. He decorated many Cabaret’s and restaurants in San Francisco and Los Angeles in the 1930s and ’40s. In 1957, I won a state-wide scholarship to Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles. It was sponsored by Walt Disney Studios and the LA Herald Examiner.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
My journey in art has taken me down many paths. I have worked in commercial art and the fine arts throughout my career. I have designed greeting cards, baseball and hockey card, children’s books, menu design, and magazine illustrations. I love fine art. It is my main focus. These last two years I have retired here in Arizona. I have been focused on watercolors and acrylic painting. I hope people enjoy my interpretations and creative style.

People can view my websites and keep abreast of my art and follow my journey.

In your view, what is the biggest issue artists have to deal with?
The biggest challenges facing artist today, I think is competition and exposure. Although I have been in the artistic area for a long time, I find you just have to keep moving forward. Who knows what lies ahead. Another thing is to maintain your drive and passion for your work.
